About Oyster Fire Escape Inspections
Oyster Fire Escape Inspections is a full-service fire escape firm serving New Jersey property owners and property managers — every county, every municipality. We inspect, we repair, we certify. One crew carries the job from first call to green tag.
Origin
Oyster Fire Escape Inspections was founded after years of seeing the same pattern: a building fails its fire escape inspection, and then the owner spends months juggling three vendors — the inspection firm that wrote the report, a welder who doesn't read code citations, and whoever is supposed to get the re-certification filed. Deadlines slip, the violation stays open, and nobody owns the outcome. The firm was built to close that gap: one crew that inspects, repairs to the documented deficiency list, and delivers the certification.
Methodology
Every inspection follows the requirements of the NJ Uniform Fire Code and the International Fire Code §1104. The structural visual examination covers stringers, treads, landings, handrails, balusters, attachment brackets, drop-down ladder mechanism, counterweight assembly, and the masonry or structural connections. Load testing is performed per IFC §1104.16.5 — 1,000 pounds per landing or five times the design live load, whichever is greater — when the inspection cycle, the AHJ, or the property's history requires it.
Repairs Done Right
When the inspection finds deficiencies, Oyster Fire Escape Inspections prices the repairs as a fixed, itemized scope tied to the documented deficiency list and its code citations — no open-ended time-and-materials, no "while we're up there" additions. Every repair is photographed before and after. Owners who already hold a report from another inspection firm can send it over: we price and perform the repairs straight from any qualified inspector's documentation, then handle the re-certification.
AHJ Working Relationships
Over years of submitting certifications to fire officials across New Jersey, Oyster Fire Escape Inspections has built familiarity with how individual AHJs prefer reports formatted, what supporting documentation they request, and how they communicate enforcement timelines. That experience translates into reports that get accepted on first submission rather than bouncing back for revisions.
Service Area
Oyster Fire Escape Inspections services every one of New Jersey's counties and municipalities. The methodology, report format, and turnaround commitment are the same statewide. Whether the property is a single brownstone in an urban core or a multi-building commercial campus in a suburban area, the deliverable is identical.
